Twelve members of a family, including three children, suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out following a CNG leak at a scrap shop in Madhya Pradesh's Orchha town on Friday (November 6, 2026), police said.
The incident occurred in the afternoon, they said.
The injured were taken to a hospital in Jhansi in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh for treatment, and the condition of two of them — scrap dealer Khalil (60) and his son Sameer (30) — is stated to be critical, Orchha police station house officer Jitendra Singh Gurjar told PTI.
Mr. Khalil had purchased a CNG cylinder from someone and was trying to dismantle it to extract brass and other metals when the gas leaked out of it and sparked a fire, he said.
The blaze engulfed the premises, causing 12 members of Mr. Khalil's family to suffer burn injuries, he said.
Niwari Superintendent of Police Rai Singh Narwaria and District Collector Jamuna Bhide reached the spot after receiving information about the incident, and arranged for the injured to be shifted to the Jhansi medical hospital, the inspector said.
No case has been registered in connection with the incident so far, Mr. Gurjar said, adding that the police would take action based on the investigation.
