Urban Development and Mysuru district in-charge Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Friday inaugurated the two-day Chitra Sante at the Manasagangotri campus by painting on a canvas, marking the beginning of the art exhibition ahead of Mysuru Dasara.

The Chitra Sante, being held in front of the Clock Tower at Manasagangotri, features 88 stalls showcasing paintings and other artworks by artists from different parts of the State and the country.

Dr. Yathindra and other dignitaries visited the stalls and appreciated the artworks. They also paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar before participating in the inaugural programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Yathindra said Mysuru was home to literature, music, dance, painting, sculpture and several other art forms. Chitra Sante provided an important platform to promote painting during the Dasara season, he said.

He said the Chitra Sante had also been successfully organised in 2023. This year, it had been planned with the objective of creating a platform for the display and sale of artworks rather than merely promoting commercial products.

Hundreds of artists from different States and regions are participating in the event. Dr. Yathindra appealed to art lovers in Mysuru to visit the exhibition and support artists by purchasing their works.

Artist Pallavi Javalekar (Stall No. 24) has displayed postcards featuring iconic places in and around Mysuru, including Srirangapatna, St. Philomena’s Church, the railway station and Jaganmohan Palace. Her coffee-stain bookmarks have also attracted visitors.

Customised bookmarks, postcards and mini-canvas illustrations, along with a variety of artworks, have emerged as popular attractions at the Chitra Sante.

Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner M.K. Savita welcomed the dignitaries and gave an overview of the event. The dignitaries also released the poster for the Children’s Dasara programme.

MLAs Tanveer Sait, T.S. Srivatsa and K. Harish Gowda, other dignitaries and senior officials were present.
