Students of the Central University of Kerala (CUK) have temporarily called off their protest following discussions with the university Registrar on Friday (October 9). Student representatives said the university had agreed to form an inquiry committee to examine their grievances and had accepted their demand to exclude proctor Sreekumar from the panel.

The protest was launched after five students were suspended by the proctor for protesting during a national seminar organised at the university to mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. The students staged a protest demanding, among other things, the withdrawal of the suspension orders.

During discussions with the Registrar, student representatives insisted that they could not accept an inquiry conducted by a committee that included the proctor, who had taken disciplinary action against them. Following their objection, the university agreed to constitute an inquiry committee without the proctor, the representatives said.

However, no final decision has been reached on the students’ demands. Student representatives have sought an appointment with the Vice-Chancellor on Monday (October 12) to discuss suspensions and other related issues. A delegation of five student representatives is expected to meet the V-C.
