Kottarakkara native’s organs donated after brain death

Yet another deceased-donor organ donation was carried out in the State on Saturday after the family of Kottarakkara native G. Radhakrishnan Potti, 67, who was declared brain dead following a cerebral haemorrhage at KIMSHEALTH hospital, consented to donate his organs. Three major organs -- both kidneys and the liver -- as well as the skin and cornea were harvested.

While the liver and one of the kidneys were allocated to end-stage patients undergoing treatment at KIMSHEALTH hospital, the other kidney was allocated to an end-stage renal patient at Government Medical College Kottayam. Skin would be harvested and stored in the skin bank at Govt Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram while the cornea would be harvested by the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology here.

The police created a dedicated green corridor for the ambulance transporting the kidney by road from Thiruvananthapuram to GMC Kottayam.

Radhakrishna Potti, a retired Revenue department employee at Kollam Collectorate, had been admitted to KIMSHEALTH hospital following cerebral haemorrhage on September 21. However, brainstem death was declared on Friday evening, following which his wife and daughter informed their willingness for organ donation.

Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO) coordinated the organ recipient identification and organ allocation processes.

Govt. apathy leads to death of 4,000 children every year: Kavitha

Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha alleged that government apathy was resulting in the loss of nearly 4,000 children every year in Telangana, and her party would visit all the government hospitals to expose the ‘deficiencies’. At a press conference here on Sunday, she cited figures of 6,000 infant deaths in 2020-21, 4,933 in 2022-23 and 3,853 in 2024-25. She also claimed that 1,046 infants had died in Hyderabad last year. Referring to the recent incident at RIMS, Adilabad, she criticised the Health Minister’s conduct during his recent visit to Adilabad, alleging that he was more concerned about his helicopter running out of fuel than with the condition of the hospital. Ms. Kavitha also criticised the government over healthcare spending. She claimed that, against an allocation of ₹13,192 crore in the previous year, only ₹9,242 crore was spent. She alleged that seven of 11 health schemes had received no budgetary allocation and that ₹500 crore in Aarogyasri dues remained pending.

One property, two mansions According to planning applications reviewed by Realtor, the larger home will stretch nearly 16,000 square feet across two stories, with another 7,700 square feet devoted to a basement garage. A second, two-level garage will sit at ground level, while the backyard is planned to include a swimming pool and spa. Perched on the Beverly Hills hillside, the residence will also take advantage of sweeping views across the surrounding landscape. The amenities extend outdoors, with an outdoor kitchen planned alongside solar panels designed to provide additional power resilience during grid outages.The second residence will be considerably smaller but still substantial at 6,550 square feet. The single-story home will feature a basement movie theater, entertainment areas and a two-car garage. A large terrace will overlook the surrounding scenery, while wellness amenities include hot and cold plunge pools. A courtyard with palm trees will provide another outdoor gathering space, adds the online report. A shared, highly secured compound Although the homes will occupy separate, irregularly shaped parcels, they will function as part of a connected compound.A shared driveway will lead into the property, with a 209-square-foot guard house positioned at the entrance. The development will also feature 10-foot-high perimeter fencing and an elaborate security and alarm system. At the center of the shared outdoor space, a large motor court will surround a substantial water feature, creating a common focal point between the two residences. The project has been developed with luxury planning firm Crest Real Estate and architecture firm Walker Workshop, whose portfolio includes high-end residential projects in Los Angeles.
