The leopard trapped in a cage at Akathethara.

The Keralam Forest department on Saturday trapped a four-year-old female leopard that had been spotted repeatedly near homes at Maithri Nagar, Cherad, in Akathethara panchayat. The leopard was caught in a cage set up near the residential area, following complaints from residents about its presence and the loss of pet dogs. It was shifted to the wildlife health centre at Dhoni for examination and monitoring.

A forest veterinary team examined the leopard. Forest officials said it would remain under veterinary care while its health and behaviour were monitored. Residents of Maithri Nagar, in Ward 3 of Akathethara panchayat, had approached the panchayat seeking action to address the threat. Street lights were installed in the area, and the Forest department was asked to intervene.
