Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi, popularly known as Amma, began her two-day visit to Mysuru on Monday, participating in the Brahmasthanam Mahotsavam at the Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt in Bogadi II Stage and the inauguration of a new 100-bed block of Amritakripa Multi Speciality Hospital at Roopanagar.
On the occasion, as part of the Rural Women Empowerment Programme, scholarships were distributed to 50 students. Since 2020, the initiative has provided free professional paramedical training, including accommodation, to more than 150 students.
Under the Amrita SREE (Amrita Self Reliant Employment and Empowerment) and Amrita Sahaya Nidhi programmes, sarees and financial assistance were distributed to 250 women. A total of 500 women from rural Karnataka are being supported during the two-day programme, with the remaining beneficiaries scheduled to receive assistance on Tuesday.
A large number of devotees attended the programme. Mata Amritanandamayi, who delivered a message of compassion and universal harmony, is expected to give darshan to devotees and hold spiritual sessions on Tuesday.
Digitally inaugurating the new hospital block, MP and noted cardiologist C.N. Manjunath described Mata Amritanandamayi as a divine ambassador guiding humanity. “She is a university in herself. The power to protect is mightier than the power to destroy,” he said.
He stressed that education should go beyond literacy and be complemented by values and samskara. He also lauded her contributions to education and healthcare, particularly her efforts to make quality medical treatment accessible to the underprivileged and the middle class.
The MP urged youngsters to communicate responsibly, maintain healthy relationships and practise yoga and exercise.
Dr. Manjunath called upon them to contribute to society through small acts of kindness and dedicate their lives to the greater good.
MLA G.T. Deve Gowda stressed the importance of sharing natural resources with fellow human beings and other living creatures.
MLA T.S. Srivatsa, former University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor G. Hemanth Kumar, senior advocate O. Shyama Bhat and other dignitaries were present. A large number of devotees attended the programme.
