‘Aathmanadam’ a music-yoga programme organised at the Viyyur Central Prison to promote the mental and emotional well-being of inmates.

Music and yoga came together to offer a soothing break from prison routine at Viyyur Central Prison and Correctional Home, where 40 inmates and 10 staff members took part in an interactive wellness programme titled ‘Aathmanadam’ .

Organised under the direction of prison superintendent Venu K., the programme sought to promote the mental and emotional well-being of inmates through the therapeutic power of music and yoga.

Meharuf Raj, patron of the Aathmanadam organisation and a noted music therapist, inaugurated the event and led a music therapy session recently. Shruthi A. of the organisation also participated. The session featured popular Malayalam and Hindi songs chosen to appeal to the inmates and create a cheerful atmosphere.

Music transcended the prison walls as participants joined in songs that brought moments of joy and emotional engagement. Artiste Zainudheen provided accompaniment on the harmonium.

The programme also featured a relaxation session led by yoga instructor Srinavami, introducing participants to the calming benefits of yoga.

The event was held on the fifth day of the Malayalam Language Week celebrations at the prison, with the participation of inmates interested in music and yoga.

Regional Welfare Officer (Central Zone) T.G. Santhosh presided over the function. Central prison welfare officer Saji Simon and Basil Elias also spoke.

The programme offered inmates and staff an opportunity to connect with music, unwind and experience a sense of emotional well-being within the prison environment.
