The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has issued notices to Education Department officials and the Anantapur Collector over the Raptadu incident in which a youth attacked a Class X girl student with an electric chainsaw in her classroom on October 31.
The Commission directed the Collector, the District Educational Officer (DEO) and other officials concerned to submit a report on the incident by December 4, 2026.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, in which two girl students sustained injuries, the Commission expressed concern over lapses in ensuring the safety of children in schools and the implementation of the safety manual issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
The Commission also sought details on the installation of CCTV cameras, recruitment of teachers, drivers, watchmen and other staff after police verification, transportation arrangements for students and other safety measures in schools.
