Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials of the Guntur Range on Tuesday caught a Village Revenue Officer (VRO) while accepting ₹9,000 as a bribe at Martur in Bapatla district.
The accused officer, Tella Chinna Anjaneyulu, 49, VRO of Bollapalli village, was booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to the ACB, the officer allegedly demanded ₹10,000 from complainant Dhulipalla Subba Rao, 60, of Tativaripalem village, for processing applications submitted by him and his sister, Venkayamma, seeking mutation of agricultural lands standing in the name of their late father, Ramulu.
The officer was also allegedly demanding the amount to forward the applications to the Martur Tahsildar and facilitate their approval.
Following the complainant’s repeated requests, the demand was reduced to ₹9,000, the ACB said, adding that a trap was laid on Tuesday near a shop abutting the NH-16 service road at Martur, close to the Tahsildar’s office, where the officer allegedly accepted the bribe.
Anjaneyulu joined the Revenue Department as a VRA in 1996 and was promoted to VRO in 2008. He has since served at several locations in Prakasam and Bapatla districts.
