R. K. Bhoodes elected chairperson of CEPCI

The Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) held its 71st annual general meeting on Tuesday at Cashew Bhavan, Kollam. Following the constitution of the new committee of administration, R.K. Bhoodes was elected as the chairperson of CEPCI while Jaison G. Oommen was elected as the vice-chairperson. The newly constituted committee has assumed office with effect from Tuesday.

Consumer protection association demands transparency for consumers of Aavin products in the Nilgiris

The Coonoor Consumer Protection has demanded that bills of sale be given to consumers purchasing Aavin products as well as to consumers patronising the farmers’ market in Udhagamamandalam. The association made the demands during its monthly meeting held recently, where they said that consumers purchasing products at Aavin outlets were not being given bills of sale in the Nilgiris. They added that bills were also not being issued for produce being sold at the farmers’ market in Udhagamandalam. They demanded that the Aavin management as well as the Horticulture Department ensure that bills of sale are given to consumers. The association also said that the regional transport office must cancel licenses for mini bus operators found to be collecting excess fares and that an approved fare chart should be mandatorily displayed in all mini-bus buses for passengers to be able to check fares.

VRO caught accepting ₹9,000 as bribe in Bapatla district

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials of the Guntur Range on Tuesday caught a Village Revenue Officer (VRO) while accepting ₹9,000 as a bribe at Martur in Bapatla district. The accused officer, Tella Chinna Anjaneyulu, 49, VRO of Bollapalli village, was booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. According to the ACB, the officer allegedly demanded ₹10,000 from complainant Dhulipalla Subba Rao, 60, of Tativaripalem village, for processing applications submitted by him and his sister, Venkayamma, seeking mutation of agricultural lands standing in the name of their late father, Ramulu. The officer was also allegedly demanding the amount to forward the applications to the Martur Tahsildar and facilitate their approval. Following the complainant’s repeated requests, the demand was reduced to ₹9,000, the ACB said, adding that a trap was laid on Tuesday near a shop abutting the NH-16 service road at Martur, close to the Tahsildar’s office, where the officer allegedly accepted the bribe. Anjaneyulu joined the Revenue Department as a VRA in 1996 and was promoted to VRO in 2008. He has since served at several locations in Prakasam and Bapatla districts. TGSPDCL records new peak demand of 12,299 MW

The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) recorded a new peak power demand of 12,299 MW at 4.16 p.m. on Wednesday, the highest in the company’s history, according to its Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil. The overall power demand in Telangana stood at 19,400 MW on Wednesday, with TGSPDCL accounting for 12,299 MW and the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGNPDCL) recording 6,736 MW. Mr. Patil said the successful handling of the record demand marked another milestone for the State’s power sector. The previous highest demand within the TGSPDCL limits was 12,044 MW recorded on September 29, while the earlier record was 11,828 MW on September 11. He said that power consumption in Telangana was increasing by about 6% to 7% annually, and TGSPDCL had prepared a special action plan to meet the anticipated increase in demand this coming summer.
